Interac casinos in Canada: deposits, withdrawals, limits and fees
Interac e-Transfer is the most common way Canadians pay at online casinos. Your bank sets the limits and fees, and a sent transfer can't be pulled back once deposited.
Short answer
Most casinos that accept Canadians take Interac e-Transfer for deposits, and many pay out with it too. Your bank sets the limits: C$3,000 per 24 hours at CIBC, Tangerine and Simplii, C$5,000 per transfer at Desjardins, up to C$10,000 a day in the RBC app. Sending is free on most chequing plans; some accounts charge C$1.00 to C$1.50 per transfer. Interac Online, the older bank-login checkout, closed on October 31, 2024. Once a transfer is deposited it is final.

Interac e-Transfer and Interac Online are different things
Interac e-Transfer sends money from your bank account to an email address or mobile number. You need an account at a participating bank or credit union and an active email or phone number. This is the method casinos use now.
Interac Online was a checkout where you logged into your bank from the merchant’s page. Interac’s own notice says it is no longer available as of October 31, 2024; credit unions left it earlier, on May 31, 2024. If a casino still shows “Interac Online”, it is outdated wording, or the button leads to a different service.
You may also see Interac Debit for online and in-app payments, which works through Apple Pay or Google Pay at participating merchants. It is a separate product, and casinos rarely offer it.
Bank limits and fees
Interac says each financial institution sets its own e-Transfer limits. Tangerine’s help page says the opposite, that the limits are set by Interac; in practice the figure you see in your banking app is the one that applies. These are the published figures for personal accounts:
| Bank | Sending limit | Fee to send | Cancel or stop |
|---|---|---|---|
| RBC | Up to C$10,000 per day in the mobile app, after identity verification | Free on personal chequing (up to 999 per month); C$1.00 from savings | Free within 15 days; C$5.00 reclaim fee if it expires unaccepted |
| TD | Not stated on TD’s page | No fee to send on personal chequing accounts | See TD fee schedule |
| CIBC | C$3,000 per 24 h; C$10,000 per 7 days; C$30,000 per 30 days | C$1.50, waived on Smart Account, Everyday Chequing, student, youth and 60 Plus programs | C$3.50 stop payment |
| Desjardins | C$5,000 per transfer, per 24 h | Free with a transaction plan | C$3.50 if cancelled after 11:59 p.m. ET on the day sent |
| Tangerine | C$3,000 per day; C$10,000 per week; C$20,000 per month | Free on Chequing | See Tangerine terms |
| Simplii | C$3,000 per 24 h; C$10,000 per 7 days; C$30,000 per 30 days | Free | C$3.50 stop payment |
| Scotiabank, BMO | |||
Receiving is free at these banks. For deposits, the fee matters most on small amounts: C$1.50 on a C$20 deposit is 1.50 ÷ 20 = 7.5%. If you pay per transfer, fewer larger deposits cost less.
How a casino deposit by Interac works
- Open the cashier, choose Interac e-Transfer and enter the amount. The casino shows its minimum and maximum for this method.
- Most casinos then use one of two flows: they send an Interac Request Money to your email or phone, which you approve in your banking app, or they show a recipient and a reference to send an e-Transfer yourself.
- Approve or send the transfer in your bank app. Use an account in your own name: casinos match the payer name to your casino account.
- The casino credits your balance once the transfer arrives.
The name shown in your bank app may be a payment company rather than the casino. Keep the confirmation number from your bank until the money shows in your casino balance.
How an Interac withdrawal works
- Verify your account first. Casinos check ID and address before the first payout, and this is where most delays happen.
- Request the withdrawal to the same email or phone you used to deposit.
- The casino approves it, then sends an e-Transfer. Businesses can send through Interac e-Transfer for Business, which allows bulk payouts with limits as high as C$25,000 per transfer depending on the financial institution.
- You receive a notice by email or text. With Autodeposit set up, the money goes straight in; otherwise you log in and answer the security question.
Check your bank’s receiving limit before a large withdrawal. Casinos may split large amounts into several transfers. Full payout times from fast payout casinos.

Questions
Can I cancel an Interac e-Transfer to a casino?
Only before it is deposited, and your bank may charge a fee (C$3.50 at CIBC, Simplii and Desjardins). Interac says that once a deposit has been made, there is no way to reverse it. Transfers to Autodeposit recipients usually can’t be cancelled at all.
Is Interac Online still available?
No. Interac discontinued Interac Online on October 31, 2024. Casinos now use Interac e-Transfer.
Why was my Interac deposit rejected?
Common causes are a transfer above your bank’s daily limit, a payer name that doesn’t match your casino account, or a deposit below the casino’s minimum. Your bank can also block a payment it flags.
Do I pay tax on winnings paid by Interac?
The payment method does not change the tax. For recreational players, gambling winnings are generally not taxed in Canada: see are gambling winnings taxable.
