Free spins with no deposit in Canada: what 50 spins are worth

Free spins look generous until you multiply the count by the spin value. We do that math for you and show what wagering leaves.

Short answer

Free spins with no deposit are a set number of spins on one slot at a fixed bet, usually the lowest. Fifty spins at C$0.10 is C$5 of bets, and at 96% RTP they return about C$4.80 on average. That C$4.80 is bonus money, usually with wagering on top: at 40x you must bet C$192 more, which on average costs C$7.68. The spins are a fair way to try a slot; the cash at the end is rarely more than a few dollars. Our results:.

Free spins are still gambling once wagering starts. Set a limit before you play: responsible gambling.

How free spins work

The casino credits a number of spins on a named slot. You can’t choose the bet: the spin value is fixed by the offer, and the terms state it (often the slot’s minimum). Some offers drop all spins at once, others release them in batches over several days, and you must log in each day to collect them.

What happens to the winnings depends on the offer:

  • winnings become bonus money with a wagering requirement (the most common case);
  • winnings are paid as cash with no wagering (rarer, see no wagering bonuses);
  • winnings are capped, so anything above a set amount is removed.

The headline number of spins tells you little. Two figures tell you more: the spin value and the wagering on winnings.

What an offer is worth: the math

The value of free spins before wagering is spins × spin value × RTP. Here are three offers of the kind we see, compared on that basis:

OfferBets placedAverage winnings at 96% RTPWagering at 40xAverage cost of wagering
20 spins at C$0.2020 × C$0.20 = C$4.00C$4.00 × 0.96 = C$3.8440 × C$3.84 = C$153.60C$153.60 × 0.04 = C$6.14
50 spins at C$0.1050 × C$0.10 = C$5.00C$5.00 × 0.96 = C$4.8040 × C$4.80 = C$192.00C$192.00 × 0.04 = C$7.68
100 spins at C$0.10100 × C$0.10 = C$10.00C$10.00 × 0.96 = C$9.6040 × C$9.60 = C$384.00C$384.00 × 0.04 = C$15.36

In all three rows the average cost of wagering is larger than the average winnings, so the expected cash at the end is zero. You come out ahead only if the spins or the wagering hit a win above average. With no wagering, the same 50 spins would be worth C$4.80 in cash on average.

One more thing changes the result: volatility. On a high-volatility slot most batches of 50 spins win little, and a few win a lot. A maximum cashout then cuts those few big wins. On a low-volatility slot results bunch closer to the average.

Where to play the winnings

Once the spins are done, you usually choose the games for the wagering. The RTP of that game changes the cost. Take C$4.80 of winnings at 40x, so C$192 of bets: at 96% RTP the average cost is C$192 × 0.04 = C$7.68, at 94% it is C$192 × 0.06 = C$11.52. Pick an eligible slot with a high RTP, check the figure in its info screen, keep the bet under the maximum, and play a game with low or medium volatility so the balance is more likely to last to the end of wagering.

Traps in free spin terms

Max cashout

A cap on spin winnings

Free spin winnings are often capped at a fixed amount. A lucky bonus round above the cap is cut back when you withdraw.

Max bet

The limit applies during wagering too

After the spins, wagering the winnings comes with a maximum bet per spin. Going over it, even once, can void the winnings.

Game weighting

Wagering may exclude the slot you like

Some games don’t count towards wagering, and table games usually count at a reduced rate. Check the excluded list before you choose where to play the winnings.

Expiry

Spins expire, then winnings do

There are often two clocks: one to use the spins and one to finish wagering. Spins released daily must be collected each day or they are lost.

KYC

ID before payout

Expect an ID and address check before the first withdrawal. Some casinos also require a deposit to verify your payment method before they pay free spin winnings.

Questions

How much are 50 free spins worth?

Multiply the spins by the spin value: 50 × C$0.10 = C$5 of bets. At 96% RTP the average return is C$4.80, before any wagering or cap.

Can I choose the slot for my free spins?

Almost never. The offer names one slot, sometimes a short list. The spins appear when you open that game.

Do free spin winnings count as cash?

Usually they are bonus money until you meet the wagering requirement. Offers with no wagering pay the winnings as cash; the terms say which kind you have.

Why did my free spins disappear?

The most common reasons are expiry, opening a different game, or a deposit that activated a new bonus and replaced the old one. Ask support for the bonus history before you play on.
