Crash games in Canada: how they work and what they return
In a crash game a multiplier climbs until it stops at a random point. Your target decides how often you win; the studio's RTP decides what it costs.
Short answer
A crash game shows a multiplier that climbs from 1x until it “crashes” at a random point. You cash out before the crash to win your bet times the multiplier, or lose the bet. The studio sets the RTP: Spribe lists Aviator at 97%, BGaming lists Space XY at 97%, Turbo Games lists Crash X at 96%, and Pragmatic Play lists Spaceman at 95%. With a 97% game, the chance of reaching a 2x target is about 0.97 ÷ 2 = 48.5%, whatever strategy you use. Many crash games are provably fair, so you can check each round after it ends. Our notes:.
Rounds last seconds and restart at once. Set a round or time limit first: responsible gambling.

How a crash round works
- Before the round, you place one bet or more, and optionally set an auto cash-out multiplier.
- The round starts and the multiplier rises: 1.00x, 1.50x, 2.00x and up.
- At any moment you can cash out and win bet × current multiplier. Auto cash-out does it at your preset target.
- At a random point the round crashes. Any bet still running is lost.
The crash point is decided before the round starts. Watching the graph or the last results gives you no information about the next round.
Published RTPs, from the studios
| Game | Studio | RTP stated by studio | Other details from the studio page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aviator | Spribe | 97% | Provably fair; cash out before the plane flies away |
| Space XY | BGaming | 97% | Max multiplier x10,000; max win €250,000; auto cash-out; several bets per round |
| Crash X | Turbo Games | 96% | Max multiplier ×999,999 |
| Spaceman | Pragmatic Play | 95% | Custom auto cash-out and a 50% auto cash-out option |
| JetX | SmartSoft Gaming | Four simultaneous bets; auto cash-out |
Some review sites give Spaceman 96.50% and Crash X 95% or 97%. We use the studio’s own page. The casino may run a different version, so check the RTP in the game’s rules screen before you play.
The math of a cash-out target
In a crash game the RTP fixes the relationship between your target and your chance to reach it. If the game returns R on average and you always cash out at target m, then (chance of reaching m) × m = R. So the chance of reaching m is about R ÷ m.
| Target | Chance at 97% RTP | Chance at 95% RTP |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5x | 0.97 ÷ 1.5 = 64.7% | 0.95 ÷ 1.5 = 63.3% |
| 2x | 0.97 ÷ 2 = 48.5% | 0.95 ÷ 2 = 47.5% |
| 5x | 0.97 ÷ 5 = 19.4% | 0.95 ÷ 5 = 19.0% |
| 10x | 0.97 ÷ 10 = 9.7% | 0.95 ÷ 10 = 9.5% |
| 100x | 0.97 ÷ 100 = 0.97% | 0.95 ÷ 100 = 0.95% |
Every target has the same average cost: 3% of your bets at 97% RTP, 5% at 95%. A low target wins often and small; a high target wins rarely and big. Over C$100 of bets, the average loss is C$3 on a 97% game and C$5 on a 95% game, whether you aim for 1.5x or 100x.
This is a simplified model; the exact distribution depends on each studio’s algorithm. It holds well enough to show that no cash-out pattern beats the RTP.
Provably fair: what you can check
Many crash games publish a fairness method. In Spribe’s version, the operator generates a server seed before the round and shows its hash; after the round, the seed is combined with players’ client seeds and hashed (SHA-512) to give the result. You can then check from the game history that the round used the seed committed in advance. You can also change your own client seed.
Provably fair proves the round wasn’t changed after bets were placed. It does not change the RTP, and it doesn’t make any outcome predictable.
Things to watch
- Speed: a round lasts seconds. At 60 rounds an hour and C$1 a round on a 97% game, the average cost is 60 × C$1 × 0.03 = C$1.80 an hour; double the stake, double the cost.
- Two bets at once: some games let you run two bets with different targets. It is two bets, with two edges.
- Bonus wagering: casinos often count crash games at a reduced rate or exclude them.
- Max win caps: games and casinos can cap a single win; BGaming lists €250,000 for Space XY.

Questions
Is there a strategy that wins at crash games?
No. The RTP sets the average return for every cash-out target. Low targets win more often and pay less; the average cost is the same.
Can I predict the next crash point?
No. The result is set before the round from seeds that are hashed in advance. Apps or bots that claim to predict rounds are scams.
Which crash game has the highest RTP?
Of the studio pages we checked, Aviator (Spribe) and Space XY (BGaming) list 97%. Check the RTP at your casino, which can differ.
Are crash games legal in Canada?
They are casino games, regulated like slots by your province. See is online gambling legal in Canada.
